Interface Councils

Platform: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter/X

Interface Councils aim to improve the quality of life of those living in Melbourne’s outer suburbs and create the same opportunities as those living in the inner suburbs.

Interface Councils represents a group of ten councils that form a ring around Melbourne, including Cardinia Shire Council, Hume City Council, Melton Shire Council, Mornington Peninsula Shire, Nillumbik Shire Council, Whittlesea City Council, Wyndham City Council, Shire of Yarra Ranges, City of Casey and Mitchell Shire Council.

  • The Challenge

Driving Change Beyond the City Limits

In the lead up to the 2018 Victorian State Election, Interface Councils aimed to drive action for improved outcomes in Melbourne's outer suburbs. Historically, state governments lacked a clear and comprehensive policy addressing the social, economic, and environmental challenges in these areas.

Interface Councils aimed to raise awareness among residents about their initiatives, encouraging engagement through both traditional and online platforms. To support the online aspect of the campaign, crisis management consultants Socom, in collaboration with Aston Digital, were engaged to help drive its digital marketing strategy and outreach.

  • The Strategy

‘The Liveability Project’

A central element of the election campaign was the creation of The Liveability Project, which addressed the key challenges to liveability in Melbourne’s outer suburbs. Developed as a distinct brand from Interface Councils, The Liveability Project served as a platform to collect personal stories from residents in these areas.

Aston Digital was responsible for building The Liveability Project’s brand identity, including logo design, and establishing its presence on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X (formerly Twitter).

Aston Digital also developed a customer journey that attracted interface residents through paid social media ads, engaged them through organic content, and guided them to visit the website to support the campaign’s initiatives. This strategy was implemented in the three months leading up to the election.
